TheTorrentSwing is a rather new forum. But once it has grown a little it will be very impressive. Basically, TheTorrentSwing is a forum dedicated to helping people new to torrents. It is set up so that people can ask questions without feeling embarrassed or having sarcastic remarks thrown in their face. It is a forum where they can ask for help without being judged like they would at some other forums. Here is a quote from a member who recently joined TTS.

First things first, this is for windows only.

1. Open up notepad. (can use run command "notepad")
2. copy and paste this "dir /b /on > cdlist.txt" without the ""
3. click save as.
4. name it w/e u want but remember to save it as a .BAT extension!
5. place it wherever your mp3s are kept
6. doubclick it
7. open cdlist.txt in your mp3 folder

I. Introduction

This is a detailed and up-to-date guide to configure the best CD extractor on the planet, also known as Exact Audio Copy, which is made for Windows. It will guide you through the setup It consists of information I've found on various ripping and encoding sites, including Hydrogen Audio. What I've done is compile the most important and useful specifications that go into making a proper rip without giving you a lot of filler and information that isn't understood by the average user. At first glance, this guide may seem tedious or overwhelming, but the initial setup of EAC along with the setup of the four encoders is a one time deal. After that, it's smooth sailing. I might add that it isn't necessary to configure EAC for all four encoders to use. Just the ones you prefer or need.

Installation

The very first step is installing EAC. You need to download EAC. You also need a working ASPI layer. If you have Nero installed you can copy wnaspi32.dll from the Nero installation folder (C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero) to your EAC installation folder (C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy) after the installation has finished. If you don't have Nero you can download the needed file here.

After installation is complete, copy wnaspi32.dll and run EAC.
If it prompts you to run the Configuration Wizard, click cancel then restart EAC.

Configuring the options

Press F12. You can enter your own email address if you like or you can leave the uber@ubernet.org as the default email. Select a server from the dropdown menu. The default server is highlighted but as you can see there are multiple servers located all over the world. Select the one you want and click OK.

Press F9 and select the 'Extraction' tab. Check 'Fill up missing offset samples with silence' and 'Synchronize between tracks.' Also change the Error recovery quality to High.

On the next tab General check following options:

On unknown cds automatically access online freedb database: When you insert a cd in your drive EAC will automatically lookup the performer, album and track titles from the online freedb database. That saves you a lot of typing work if the cd is found in the online database. This option makes only sense if you have a permanent Internet connection like DSL or cable.
When using the Power Down feature wait for external compressors.

On the third tab Tools you also must set a few options:

Use CD-Text information in CUE sheet generation
Create '.m3u' playlist on extraction and the sub option 'Write m3u playlist with extended information.' This will make EAC add additional information to the playlist like the track play time.
Automatically write status report after extraction. This makes EAC write a status report (log file) after extraction in which you can find possible errors and the used settings.
On extraction, start external compressors queued in the background. This controls how many compressor windows will open and encode while you are ripping. It is unnecessary to select more than one.

Select the Normalize tab.
If Normalize is checked, then deselect it.

Select the Filename tab. You'll notice two input fields with text in them. Below you see %N - %A - %T in those fields. EAC generates filenames using this string which would look like Number - Artist - Title. You can experiment with the various combinations for the filename construction. In any case, please keep the filenames simple and put the track number (%n) first.

Select the Interface tab and tick 'Installed external ASPI interface.' This would be the wnaspi32.dll file you copied to your EAC folder after installation. This section is complete. Select Ok.

Verifying or setting the drive options

This is one of the most important parts of the EAC configuration.

Press F10. Select the warning dialog box away.
Select the 'Extraction Method' tab. Secure Mode *must* be enabled!
Check 'Drive has 'Accurate Stream' feature' and 'Drive caches audio data.'

Select the Drive tab.

Select the dropdown menu and select Autodetect read command.

Select Autodetect read command now. After a few seconds EAC returns the correct read command for your drive.

Select the Offset/Speed tab

Check 'Use read sample offset correction'

In the input field below, enter the offset correction value for your drive which can be found on this site. If you don't know what drive you have or what too look for, your drive will be listed at the of the window below. It's likely to be easier searching for the model numbers. (e.g. DRU-720A)

Check 'Allow speed reduction during extraction' and 'CD-Text Read capable drive.'

Select the Gap Detection tab

It is recommended to use Detection Method A, and Secure here. Some drives may not use these settings, if this is the case when you are detecting gaps, try changing them.

Select secure in the detection accuracy dropdown list.

Select OK.

Setting the encoder options

The configuration of EAC and the drives is done. Next step is to configure the encoder settings. These differ from compressor to compressor, but the four steps lists below will remain the same.

Press F11

Select External Compression

Check 'Use external program for compression.

Select User Defined Encoder from the Parameter passing scheme dropdown box. Use the links below to advance to your preferred encoder.

LAME mp3

The first thing you need to do is get LAME. (This version is recommended by the experts at Hydrogen Audio).

For those who are still used to the older --alt-preset settings, here is a short overview. -V 2 --vbr-new equals to --alt-preset standard, -V 0 --vbr-new equals to --alt-preset extreme and -b 320 equals to --alt-preset insane. Just ignore the Bit rate field and the high and low quality selectors.

I've been made aware of a few people who have problems with LAME.exe not encoding the .wav files to .mp3. Apparently there is a problems with bad genre info causing lame.exe not to work properly. I've added a fix for that to the command lines above.

Check if the settings on the ID3 Tag tab page match the settings of the screenshot below.

Monkey's Audio

The first thing you need to do is get Monkey's Audio. You will also need wapet. The Monkey's Audio format supports the so-called APEv2 tags but the command line encoder doesn't. Therefore, we point EAC to wapet which does support APEv2 tags and, which on its turn, points to the Monkey's Audio compressor.

You'll have to download and install the full Monkey's Audio Windows suite. When that's done you'll find the command line encoder mac.exe in the Monkey's Audio installation folder (default: C:\Program Files\Monkey's Audio\). Copy and paste it to C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy\

Extract the wapet.exe to C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy\

Back in EAC set Use file extension to .ape (including the dot in front). Next we need to set the path to the wapet executable.

If you stored it in the recommended location, you can just copy and paste C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy\wapet.exe

Further set the last four options on the tab as shown in the screenshot below.

On the External Compression tab enter one of following command lines in the Additional command line options input field:

Ogg Vorbis

Saving the compression options to a profile

You've just set the options for your preferred encoder and now it's time to save that configuration to it's very own profile so you don't have to go that setup again. This is especially convenient if you want to use several different encoders because each time you change the compression options in EAC the old settings will be lost. You can use one of two ways to create your new profile(s).

1st Method

Press Shift+F2

Enter a name for the profile. I suggest naming it after whichever encoder it is configured for. That way, there will be no confusion on which is which later down the road.

Now choose a save location. There is a Profiles folder in EAC's default installation folder. (C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy\Profiles\)

2nd Method

In the status bar on the bottom of the EAC main window you'll notice Load, Save, New and Delete buttons. With these buttons you can manage profiles in EAC.

Select the New button. Provide a name for the profile, check All Compression options and select OK. You've created and automatically saved your profile to C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy\Profiles\.

Your new profile should now be added to the dropdown box on the left of the buttons. If you have several profiles in the list you can switch between those by selecting one from the list and selecting the Load button. The second method is the better of the two for it's simplicity and time saving effectiveness. You may now continue setting another compressor or another profile, or you can start using EAC.

2. Using EAC

Insert the cd you want to rip in your cd-rom and wait for EAC to request the cd information in the online freedb database. Verify the titles because the information is sent in by volunteers to freedb and often contains typos.

Ripping an audio cd

This is the most common used extraction method. Repeat this process each time you rip a disc.

Select only the wanted tracks, or none at all if you wish to rip the entire disc.

Press F4. EAC will now detect the gaps between tracks of the entire disc and shouldn't take very long.

Create a CUE Sheet by selecting Action > Create CUE Sheet > Multiple WAV Files With Gaps... (Noncompliant) from the menu bar.

Save the .cue in the same folder you plan to save the compressed files in.

Press Shift+F6. The folder that you saved the .cue in should be showing at this point.

Select Save if this is the location where you indeed want to save the compressed files.

EAC will now start the extraction process. It will test read each track for errors and then read, copy and then compress the track using the external compressor. You will see another pop up during extraction. This is the external compressor encoding the file. It looks just like the window you get by clicking Start > Run and typing cmd. Do not close this window! It will open and close as it begins and finishes the compression, respectively. During extraction you'll sometimes notice red dots lighting up in the extraction dialog window and after the extraction completed you get a log with things like Peak Level and Track Quality. When a Read Error or Sync Error occurs, there's an uncorrectable error in the read audio data. After extraction you'll get a list of the exact locations of the suspicious positions.

EAC has now completed the extraction process.

Click OK. Do not close EAC because the external compression quite possibly be a track or two behind the extraction process. Be sure all encoding is finished before exiting EAC. Open the folder where you saved the compressed files. There will be a .log file. This file contains information such as the output format, the command line which was used, pre-gap lengths, peak levels, track quality, CRC checksums, and any errors that occurred during the extraction. You may want to compare the CRC checksums in the .log to the ones listed in EAC to make sure they actually do match. In the same folder, there should be an .m3u playlist which you can drop into the player of your choice and it will load all of the tracks for you. Congratulations! You've just made a proper rip.

I made a small review and translation on Ncore's recently launched point -sytem and invite sytem. For those who might be interested, I wanted to help U. I know that Hungarian is not an easy language.

Here we go.
You can send invites if you have 500 points. There ain't no time limitations, schedules at the moment. Simple as that: collect the 500 points and you can invite Your friend.
How can you get points?

Uploading 1 torrentfile (after Moderator's Approval): 5 points
Fulfilling a request: 20 points(maximum 2 p. / day)
Login on the tracker: 1 point (maximum 1 p. / day)
Uploading 100 Mb / day : 1 point (maximum 1 occasion / day)
Downloading 1 Gb / day: 1 point (max. 1 occasion / day, freebies don' t count)

Deductions:
1 warn = -20 points
Any other breeching: - 2 points

What else you can use Your points for:
1 request = -25 points
1 invite sent = -500 points(50 points during freeleech sometimes)
Under warning you cannot collect points until warning is lifted!

How to upload the same file to two Private Trackers

introduction:
This tutorial will explain how to upload an album to two different private trackers.
I have seen some people doing things like adding 2 trackers to the same torrent job, this is a bad thing and
will be flagged as cheating. So I decided to write this tutorial to help people do it the right way. Tich was the first to talk about that on the other thread, so the kudos go to him.
The tutorial was made using uTorrent 1.6, but may work with any version.

CREATING THE FIRST TORRENT

first you will need some album to upload. I'll use an imaginary one, let's call it "waffos - best hits"

now you have to upload it to the tracker, but first you'll need to create the torrent:
open uTorrent, click on 'create new torrent'.
a window will pop, now follow the instructions:

1 - click on 'add directory' and point to the folder you want to upload.
2 - paste the tracker url from waffles upload page/use your url with the passkey.
3 - since this is the first torrent you will create, it's recommended to leave this option on auto detect.
4 - UNTICK start seeding, TICK private torrent.
5 - click on 'create and save as...' button, the progress bar below it will fill up, and you'll be asked where you want to save the .torrent.

click on 'close' button.

now you can see a new job added to uTorrent, you may want to label it, or just leave it on No Label category.
click on the torrent job, you'll notice some tabs below it, click on the general tab, now you have to check the 'piece size' used by uTorrent .

this is needed because:
1 - the piece size was set to auto during torrent creation so you need to know what size was used.
2 - you will have to select a different piece size for the second torrent

now go to the upload page on waffles and select the .torrent you have created, upload it and start seeding.

ADDITIONAL STEPS: if you have used the standard tracker url (i.e. without passkey), you may have to download the .torrent file on the upload page in order to proper seed it. To do this, just download it from the page, open uTorrent, select the new torrent job you have created, CLICK ON REMOVE BUTTON (otherwise uTorrent will try to add new tracker to existing job), add the new .torrent you downloaded and point it to your album folder (in this case: G:waffos - best hits).

now you're done with the first torrent, let's create the second torrent to upload to what.cd tracker.

CREATING SECOND TORRENT

click on create a new torrent, the same window will popup.

As you can see on the pic above, the folder will be the same as the first (YOU DON'T NEED TO MODIFY THE FILES INSIDE THE FOLDER).
Now you have to use the what.cd tracker, get it from your what.cd upload page.
IMPORTANT STEP: this is the where you do the trick, you'll have to select a different piece size for the new torrent. In this example, the first torrent have a piece size of 512 kB, so I'll select a close number, like 256 or 1024 kB.
Untick start seeding, TICK private torrent.
Click on 'create and save as...' and save the new .torrent on a different location, or with a different name (otherwise uTorrent will ask to overwrite the first one). remember to keep your .torrent stored because you may need them on the future.
uTorrent will add a new job and now you can see 2 exactly identical torrents on the job list, but one is for waffles and the other is for what. I strongly suggest that you create labels for better management of your upload jobs.
upload the new torrent to what.cd and start seeding.

that's it, you now have 2 identical torrents on two different private trackers.

Rip to FLAC with Log/Cue/M3U on Mac

Yes! You can rip to FLAC without Windows! I'm going to show you how to rip an audio CD to FLAC on your Mac using two freely available programs:

xACT: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/14246
VLC: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

First off, you are going to want to insert your CD you want to rip, and open up xACT. Then at the top of xACT, click on "util" Select "CD Extraction, and don't select "extract tracks to one file" unless you want the tracks you are ripping to be a continuous track.

Next click "add" near the bottom of xACT, and a window will come up for you to select where the audio tracks are that you will be ripping. Navigate to the CD in your finder, and select all the tracks. (press Command + A) Then click "Add Files" at the bottom of the Finder window.

Once you click "Add Files" they will appear in the box in xACT. Then in xACT, click Execute, and another window will appear asking you where to save the WAV files. I just made a folder on my desktop named "Legion of Boom" to match the album name. Once you have that chosen, you can click choose, and xACT will start to extract the tracks. *Note: xACT may appear to be unresponsive during the ripping progress, and the CD will also disappear from the desktop and Finder. DON'T TRY TO QUIT IT. If you quit while the CD is still ripping, it will not appear back on the desktop. I will post a trouble shooting note at the bottom of this tutorial for if your CD becomes stuck in the drive.*

After the ripping process is complete, the CD will appear back on the desktop and Finder. xACT will also automatically bring up the ripping log. Scroll through the log and make sure you do not have any errors. It might take a few rips to get all the errors out.

If you get something like this (image below) you can edit out the error(s) in the log and re-rip the track(s) by going back to "util" in xACT, click Add, and just add the one file that was ripped with an error. To save the text as a log, copy and paste the text from the log in to TextEdit, and delete the track with the error from where the 0% starts to the end of the (0.5 .. 0.5). Then, if the CD tracks that had errors ripped successfully, you can copy and paste the text from the new log in the place of where the track with the error was in TextEdit. If you continuously get errors when ripping a certain track, you might try cleaning the CD.

Once everything is error-free, save the file in TextEdit as 'albumname.log.rtf' and save it to your desktop.

After you save it, select the file name, and delete the .rtf extension. The Finder will then ask you if you are sure you want to change the extension of the file, click "Use .log" and then the file will be named "albumname.log" which can still be opened as a text file.

Now go back into xACT, and click on "encode" at the top. Select FLAC Compression, and set the compression to 8. Don't worry about the TTA Compression. Then add the WAV files you ripped from the CD.

Click on "add" and select the files from the folder you ripped to. Then click Encode, and choose a folder to convert the WAV files to. I chose the same folder I ripped the WAV files to. Now wait for the WAV files to convert. If you want, you can eject the CD from your drive, you don't need it anymore.

After the FLAC conversion is finished, you can delete the WAV files, you just need the FLAC files now.

Now you are going to want to tag the FLAC files with the artist name, album name, track titles, etc. You can do this by going to xACT, clicking on "FLAC tags" at the top, and adding the FLAC files you converted. You can select all the files at once to edit multiple tracks by hitting Command + A, then type in the information in the boxes, then hit Enter, or click Write Tags. You can select each song individually to edit track names.

Next you are going to want to create a Cue file for the FLAC files. In xACT, go to "shntool" at the top, add the FLAC files, select the Cue circle, and then click "Call Shntool." Then save the cue file in the folder the FLAC files are in. (You don't need to rename the cue file at all).

Optionally you can create a fingerprint text file, and/or verify the FLAC files by clicking on "checksum" at the top of xACT, adding the FLAC files, click "Checksum" and select what you would like to create. The fingerprint will be saved to a text file automatically, but for the verification you will need to paste the text into TextEdit and save it as a text file manually.

Now to create the M3U file, relatively easy. Open up VLC, and drag the FLAC files into the VLC playlist area. Then click File>Save Playlist.

Then for the name of the M3U file, just type in the album name, save it where the FLAC files are, and click Save. You can open the M3U file in VLC and the FLAC files will play continuously.

Another way to do this as rccc pointed out:
- open Terminal
- type: cd your/path/to/the/flacfiles
- type: ls > "Artist - Album.m3u"

That's it! You're done! If I was vague on something, or I did not explain anything thoroughly, feel free to PM me, and I will answer the question personally, or edit the tutorial. Have fun!

If you quit xACT while ripping and your disc is not appearing on the desktop or the Finder:

Open Activity Monitor, and Force Quit "cdda2wav" Your CD will now appear back on your desktop/Finder, and you will be able to reimport or eject.

Transmission: Creating/seeding on Mac

Transmission is a fairly simple torrent client to create torrents with, short and quick steps. So first when you open up Transmission, you want to go to File>Create Torrent File...

Then a window will appear asking you which file you want to make a torrent out of. Navigate to the file or folder of your choice, and click Select.

The next window will ask you to input the tracker of your choice, any comments if you wish, where the file torrent file should be created, and if the torrent you want to make should be private or not. For this tutorial, I am going to be using the Waffles tracker (http://tracker.waffles.fm/announce.php). The tracker URL can also be found on the upload page. So copy and paste that into the Tracker box. Now in this tutorial, I will be uploading to Waffles which IS a private torrent tracker, so I will need to have the Private Tracker box checked. Also, in Transmission, there is no way to change the piece size, so we will have to leave it at the default setting. For the "Open when created" box, I usually do not have that checked when I am making a torrent for Waffles. This is because the Waffles tracker does not initially include your passkey in the tracker URL. If you tried to seed with a torrent you originally made with Transmission without redownloading it from Waffles, the torrent will not work, and you will be unable to seed. After you have all of this put in, click Create.

Transmission will then proceed to create the torrent file.

All that is left now is to upload the torrent, redownload the uploaded torrent, and start seeding.

Go to the Upload page in Waffles, and put in all the required information about the torrent. Click Choose file, and locate the torrent file you just made with Transmission, then click Choose. Once you have all the information in the Upload page, click Do it! at the bottom of the page, and the next window will appear saying that you have successfully uploaded your torrent.

Now, just download your torrent you just uploaded, and replace the torrent that you originally made with Transmission with the new one you downloaded. You no longer need the original torrent file since it does not contain your passkey necessary to start seeding. So, you can either double click the torrent, or drag it into the Transmission window to start seeding.

If you get an error, such as Transmission telling you the torrent is not complete and you cannot start seeding, recheck the files by highlighting the torrent in the Transmission window, and going to Transfers>Recheck Existing Data, and Transmission will recheck the file or folder for that torrent to make sure it is 100% complete so you can start seeding.

A portable version of uTorrent may come in handy when you’re with friends, at school, or at work. It will fit perfectly on every usb-stick, Ipod, mobile phone, or any other device that is recognized a “removable disk”.
Setting up a portable uTorrent is easy.

1. Download the latest standalone version, and copy it onto your datastick.

2. Create an empty datafile with notepad or any other text editor, and name it settings.dat

3. Place the settings.dat file in the same folder on your portable disk as uTorrent.

4. Run uTorrent from your portable drive and confugure the options and preferences.

Now you’re ready to go. You can start downloading at school, and finish at home. And the good thing is that you don’t need to install uTorrent or another BitTorrent client, just a USB-port, that’s all you need.

If you’re planning to use uTorrent on different computers with different bandwidth settings, make sure that you set the maximum upload speed to 90% of the available upload speed to guarantee fast download speeds.

Tip: An easy way to adjust the up- and download speeds is by rightclicking the uTorrent icon in the taskbar.

In this tutorial we'll install this package into the box :

That's all. Note that the whole process is relatively *very* long, depends on your seedbox processor.

Before you can connect to your seedbox you need either putty if you're on Windows, and terminal if you're on unix based machine include Mac OS X. Since I'm on Mac OS X I just launch the terminal and connect to the server using this command :

where : xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx = your seedbox IP address
login_name : usually as root

dtach / screen

One thing a bit stupid now is that you can use rTorrent, but it terminates as soon as you close you terminal. Sure you can run it in the background in using rtorrent &, but then you can’t see the GUI anymore. The solution is a terminal multiplexer, which allows you to access multiple terminal sessions. That’s pretty good: you can start rTorrent from one computer with either dtach or screen, leave the session, and then get your window from another computer. Exactly what we need.

screen is better than dtach, but it's up to you.

Maybe at this point you're asking about how to upload the torrent files into your seedbox. It's easy, if you're using Mac OS X, it's all in your terminal, just use this command to established an ssh ftp session to your seedbox :
sftp login_name@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
login_name : usually root
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx : your seedbox address same as the ssh command above

after enter the sftp, just use :

Sometimes you have a tracker that has no passkey, this often have to login from the location you want to leech/seed. If you use linux you probably have question about this, don't worry, it's easy, all you need to do is create a dynamic tunnel over SSH to your server. Azureus: Creating and seeding on Mac

So, fire up Azureus and to create a torrent file go to File>New Torrent...

The first window will ask you what the torrent tracker URL is, and if the file you want to create a torrent out of is a single file, or one or more files in a directory. Choose "Use an external Tracker" and if you are using Waffles, paste the announce URL (http://tracker.waffles.fm/announce.php) into the Announce URL box. You should not have "Add Multi-Tracker information to the torrent" or "Add hashes for other networks (e.g. Gnutella2, eDonkey2000" checked. Then select if the file you want is a single file by itself, or one or more files in a directory. Once you have that set up, click Next.

The next window will ask you where the file you want to create the torrent file out of is located. Click Browse and navigate to the file or folder that you want to create the torrent file out of, click Choose, and Next in the dialog box.

After this, Azureus will bring up a window asking how you want to create the torrent file. So first, browse to where you want your torrent file to be created on your computer, and click Choose. For the piece size, I usually leave it at the default setting. I would only change this to something besides the default if I am going to make a torrent for the same file, and upload it to a different site. You should only change the piece size so that Azureus won't recognize it as a duplicate if you make a torrent for the same file(s). I usually don't have the box that says "Open for seeding when done" checked unless the tracker URL includes your passkey. If the original URL you entered to make your torrent does not include your passkey (like Waffles) you do not need to have this box checked. If it does include your passkey, like What.cd, you can have this box checked. If you feel so inclined, you can change the tracker URL to include your passkey so you do not have to redownload the torrent file from the torrent site. You can change this once you open the torrent file in Azureus by right/CTRL clicking the torrent and going to Advanced>Tracker>Edit Tracker URL(s) and edit the tracker url to include your passkey if you want to. Now check the box that says "Private Torrent - only allow peers from the tracker". If you are uploading the torrent to a private site, you should have this box checked. Once you have all of that information entered, click Finish.

The next window is a log of the torrent creation. If you get a message like "Ignoring .DS_Store file" it is okay. This is a needless file that Mac OS X creates in order to index files in a folder. Windows users have no use for this file, so it is simply ignored.

Now once the torrent file is created, go back to the Waffles Upload page, enter in all the required information, browse to where the torrent file is located on your hard drive, and click Do it! at the bottom of the Upload page.

That's it! You've successfully uploaded a torrent! The only thing left to do is to redownload the torrent, and put load it into Azureus. So now redownload the torrent from the torrent page, and go back to where you created the original torrent, and replace that one with the torrent downloaded from Waffles. You no longer need the original torrent file. Then, open the torrent in Azureus, and a box will appear asking you where to download the files to, and to select individual files if needed. So put in this information to the dialog box, and click OK.

Azureus will then proceed to check all the files in the torrent. When it reaches 100%, the torrent will appear in the bottom portion of the Azureus screen to seed (it should start automatically). If you get an error, try stopping the torrent waiting a minute or so, and restarting the torrent. The tracker may not have recognized the torrent yet.

Adding a feed

Click on the RSS button, then click Add. Paste in the feed URL and hit OK. If you want to name the feed, simply type the name in front of the URL, like so:
TV Feed|http://somesite.com/rss.xml (NO SPACE BEFORE OR AFTER THE | )

Note that the RSS Downloader will NOT consume any extra resources if you have no feeds present/enabled. Some feeds do not give direct links to the .torrent files (most notably Mininova) and as such won't work, but you can use the RSSatellite to modify those feeds to work properly.

Disabling a feed or filter

Simply uncheck the box next to the feed or filter, and it will no longer be used.

Renaming a feed or filter

You can rename a feed by selecting it, then single clicking or pressing F2. You can do the same thing for renaming filters.

Sorting filters

You can sort filters by drag and drop. Simply click, hold, and drag to wherever in the list you'd like it.

Using feeds that require HTTP authentication

For feeds that require HTTP authentication, simply use this format for the feed URL: http://username:password@sometorrentsite.com/rss.php

Using feeds that require cookies

To use feeds that require cookies, you must find the cookie for the site, and grab UID and pass from it.

IE users will find their cookies in %UserProfile%\Cookies
Firefox users will find their cookies in Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Cookies -> View Cookies
Opera users will find their cookies in Tools -> Advanced -> Cookies, but they must scroll down manually, find doesn't work
Users of other browsers will have to consult their browser's documentation

Once you have the appropriate information, use this format for the feed URL:
http://sometorrentsite.com/rss.php:COOKIE:uid=1234;pass=asdjh12378912y3lkj

Some sites do not use uid and pass as the variables, or use additional ones, so you MUST use the exact variable name and the extra variables they specify! For example, on a certain site, it uses id, password, and secure as the cookie variables you must use.

Automatically downloading torrents

To automatically download specific torrents from a feed, you can use Favorites to specify your own filters to grab torrents. It does NOT support regular expressions. Here's a tutorial explaining the various options and how to use them (with examples).

Hit Add, then type the name of the filter.
Click on the editbox next to Filter: and add your filter. The allowed wildcards are * ? and |. An example of a filter you could use would be *MP3 Archives*
If you have a strange feed using underscores or something besides periods, you can also try something like *Go?Open*
You cannot specify the season or episode number in the filter if it is decoded by µTorrent (check the Releases tab): you must use the episode number box, OR turn on "Filter matches original name instead of decoded name." You also can't match by group name without first using "Filter matches original name instead of decoded name." Remember, using "Filter matches original name" disables the "Episode number" function!
Not: allows you to exclude certain strings from matching. An example is you don't want releases with AC3 audio and H.264: you can write *AC3*|*H*264|*x*264* in Not: to exclude those.
If you want the torrents to automatically download and start without any further input, you MUST specify a folder in Save in:! However, if you have a path set in "Put new downloads in:" in Folder Options, you don't have to set a save folder here.
Feed: chooses what feed you want the filter to apply to; either all of them or a specific one
Quality allows you choose various qualities to match against, or allow all. You can choose more than one quality in the dropdown list.
Episode number is to download only specific ep numbers, say to avoid releases of old episodes. It does support ranges (i.e. 1x4-26).
"Filter matches original name instead of decoded name" is so that you can match based off what the original name is in the feed, instead of µTorrent's parsed result.
Give download highest priority sets all torrents downloaded automatically through RSS to the top of the queue, making your seeds and other downloads get queued if you reach the max active torrents.
Smart ep. filter makes µTorrent only download the first version of each new episode that matches your filter. Do NOT turn this option on if the episode number isn't parseable (shows ? for all episodes)!
Minimum interval sets a minimum interval between matches for the filter: if you set it to 2 days, µTorrent will not download anything for at least 2 days after a match.
You can use the Reset button to make µTorrent forget that it has downloaded episodes and the last time matched for that filter.
Label for new torrents auto-sets a label for torrents that match the filter.
All changes are automatically saved when you make them, so you don't have to do anything once you're done editing the filter.
You can select a filter and press ? to see what the last four episodes were that matched, and the last time that the filter matched something. A list of the currently matching episodes from the feeds you've defined for it is also available in the "?" dialog, so you can double-check your filter expression.

Installing Utorrent on a seedbox

So You want to install utorrent on your seedbox eh?

Here's the deal,This is very important.

If installing utorrent on a Fedora Server then read Part 1.

If you are installing utorrent on a Debian or ubuntu server then read part two.

Part 1

TONS of people have been PMing me lately to set up their Leeware boxes, so I guess I should just post a guide on how to do it This guide is intended for Leeware servers only, but it may work with other servers running RPM based distributions (aka distros) as well. Firstly, you need to get the following applications:

Putty or any other SSH client
FTP Client (with SFTP support) like CuteFTP, WinSCP, WS_FTP, etc.
TightVNC or any other VNC Viewer

Now, follow instructions carefully.

Open up Putty. On the left tree, go to Session.
Under Hostname (or IP address) type your IP or hostname (i.e. vpsxxx.leeware.com)
Choose SSH (port 22)
Under Saved Sessions, type something like "My Leeware Box" and press Save. (Later on, you can just load the session, so you don't have to do the previous steps again)
Press Open.
Now, a black screen should come up (terminal/command prompt).
Enter your root account details - (username, password)
Notice, when you type in the password, nothing appears on the screen! That's not a bug - it's normal. Btw, you can also paste the password by right click (again, putty won't display anything on screen).
At this point, you should be logged on. Yay, we can install some stuff now.
Type yum -y install xterm wine vnc-server to install those 3 apps: xterm (a GUI terminal), wine (to emulate windows), and VNC server (to allow you to remote control your server with a GUI).
After a while, you should see that those 3 apps are installed.
Download uTorrent onto your server. Type wget http://download.utorrent.com/1.6.1/utorrent.exe
Start VNC server, type vncserver :1
Enter any password of your choice for the VNC server.
Now, VNC server should be started. So, you can login with VNC viewer (which you installed on YOUR PC).
The server address is: :1 or :1. (e.g. vps778.leeware.com:1)
Now, a desktop should appear with a terminal/command prompt on the top left hand corner.
Run uTorrent. Type wine utorrent.exe.
w00t! uTorrent should be up and running now. Also, you should go to preferences and change the settings to whatever you want.

But, what about webUI? Well, you can install the WebUI through SSH, but since lots of people asked me about how to get files from their box to their HDD, I'll just teach you how to do it using SFTP.

On uTorrent, go to preferences and on the side tree, go to Advanced >> WebUI - tick Enable Web Interface and also, put your desired username and password for the webUI.
I also recommend putting an alternative port (8080 is fine).
Now, use your FTP client and login to your server. Put SFTP as the mode, put in the hostname/IP and port should be the default 22.
Boom! You should see all the files in your server now.
Browse to /root/.wine/drive_c/windows/profiles/root/Application Data/uTorrent/
Get WebUI and extract webui.zip. Now, transfer webui.zip to the directory that I specified above (through SFTP of course). Btw, you usually just to drag and drop the file.
Voila! WebUI is installed.

But, where is it, where's the WebUI?
Go to http://hostname:port/gui/ with your browser and login with your chosen username and password.
For example: http://vpsxxx.leeware.com:8080/gui/

Will uTorrent still run if I close VNC and Putty?
Yeah, it will still run. VNC and Putty is just to control your server.

How do I add torrents to the WebUI?
Well, that's simple - just press the (+) button on the WebUI. Alternatively, you might want to get this firefox extension so you can just drag and drop links from torrent sites.

Yeah, so I get all this. But how do I download stuff from the box to my server?
Use FTP. When you installed the WebUI, you're basically uploading webui.zip on to the server. Here, you do the reverse (Yeah, you can drag and drop).

GRRR! I'm getting slow speeds! What do I do? NEW!
If you used the speed guide on uTorrent and set it to xxx/100mbps, you should be getting the maximum speeds out of your leeware. You have to also remember that speeds depend on the torrent as well (I suggest you check peers list to see others' speeds). Other than that, I HAVE NO CLUE ON HOW TO IMPROVE THE SPEED (please don't PM me about this). Live with it, or if you're getting ridiculously low speeds then email lee.

OMG, Where does uTorrent save the files?
Wherever you set it to in Preferences. The default is /root/. (There's nothing wrong with the default directory btw, you don't need to change it.)

Well, it's a simple process. Just login to your server using Putty. Type vncserver :1 to run VNC server again. Login to the VNC server using VNC viewer, and run uTorrent from the terminal - wine utorrent.exe. Now, everything should be fine. (For people who are more 1337 with Linux, if you want you can edit the VNC start up file (on ~/.vnc/ to run uTorrent automatically when VNC starts to make life easier).

How do I run Firefox and do other stuff on the server?
This guide is only for installing uTorrent and plus, on a Leeware, there's really no point installing Firefox and other applications because it's so slow (you get what you pay for).

I tried this on a Leaseweb Express server but it doesn't work.
Yeah, leaseweb servers doesn't have SFTP. The installation process is a bit more complicated. First, you need to add a repository (like RPMForge) which contains: xterm, wine, vnc-server and etc. You also need to install fonts (msttcorefonts) and you'd need to install WebUI by using wget and unrar (not built-in you need to install this as well). You might also want to install an FTP server (proftpd), you would also need to configure it after it's installed.

I read all of this, but I'm still stuck...
I am afraid you're just too much of a n00b to use a Linux Server - get Windows!!

LOL Just joking, you can Message me (with your AIM/MSN/YAHOO, etc. preferably), and I'll see what I can do.

This HOWTO will describe how to install uTorrent on your Debian Linux desktop using wine and how to get a more suitable tray icon using alltray.
Wine is an Open Source implementation of the Windows API on top of X, OpenGL, and Unix.

µTorrent is a lightweight and efficient BitTorrent client for Windows with many features.

First of all we need to add a new repo for this you need to edit the sources.list file

#vi /etc/apt/sources.list

Add this to the end of the file, save and quit:

deb http://eclipxe.com.mx/debian/ ./
deb-src http://eclipxe.com.mx/debian ./

Update the source list using the following command

# apt-get update

Now we will install Wine and Alltray

# apt-get install alltray wine

Download latest µTorrent from here

create a dir using the following command

#mkdir utorrent

go in to the utorrent directory

#cd utorrent

#wget http://download.utorrent.com/1.6.1/utorrent.exe

Get icon using the following command

#wget http://img400.imageshack.us/img400/5093/utorrenteh8.png

Now we will create a menu entry for uTorrent, so su to root again:

# vi /usr/share/applications/utorrent.desktop

You should now have an empty file, copy and paste this (and replace “USERNAME” with your actual username:

1.Be active at the forum.
2.Share the invites that you have at that forum.
3.Make helpful posts.
4.Be active in the forums IRC as well if they have one.
5.When you receive a invite,thank the person. Once you earn invites on that site then give away the invites at that forum.
6.Obey the rules at all times!
7.DO NOT BEG!!!
8. When you have finally earned yourself a reputation in the community and still have not received a invite then make a kind request if allowed.

If you follow these things then you should be able to get any invite you want!

1.A decent upload speed:I know some may not be able to afford seedboxes or really fast connections but this is how it works with these sites. Some sites such as music or appz trackers may allow a slower upload speed since the files are smaller. But if the files are bigger (Movies,TV,Games etc) then you will need a faster upload speed.
If you have a seedbox then you will be fine...

2.Scene axx(Access):People will come after you in a jiffy if you have scene access.

3.A lot of media: If you have a lot of media then sites will like you a lot as well unless you have a slower upload speed.

4.Packs:If you have a lot of packs then a site may like you.

Hello all,This tutorial will teach you how to upload a torrent.For my demonstration I am going to be using SoundDamage.com. This was taken from Mininova and slightly edited....

1.Get utorrent from utorrent.com(I would recommend version 1.6.1)
2.Install it.
3.Open it up and Click "Create New Torrent". A screenshot is below.

In this tracker's URL most of the time at their upload page. Tick the 'start seeding' box.Tick thcase we will be selecting the latter(Add directory). A screenshot is below.

3. Browse to the folder where the files you want to upload are located, as shown. Then click 'OK'

Fill in the URLs of the trackers you wish to use.Which in this case is http://www.sounddamage.com/announce.php If you use more than one tracker (which is a good idea) then separate each URL with a blank line as shown below.Please remember that some trackers don't allow this and only accept the upload if it only has one Announce URL in the box. You can find thee "Private Torrent" Box. Then click on the 'Create and save as...' button. A example screenshot is shown below.

5. Select where to save the .torrent file to when prompted. It doesn't really matter where you put it so long as you remember where it is. I like to create a specific folder for each tracker that I upload to and put all of my torrent files for that tracker in there.After you have done this click on 'save'.

6. You should then see your new torrent in your active list in utorrent, and the status should say 'seeding' as shown below. If you get any error messages such as 'Error: the system cannot find the file specified' then there is a problem and you should try again.

7.You may need to make a nfo if your tracker requires one.If so go to this guide I made about making nfo's: INSERT LINK HERE LATER!

8..Read the Trackers Upload rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!

9..Go to the tracker's upload page.

10. Depending on what your tracker's upload page requires and has your options may be a little bit different than mine.Do everything you see in the following screenshot and you will do just fine.

11.You will then be redirected to the torrents details page.Here some trackers may require you to re-download the torrent.Others may not.If they do,go ahead and re-download it and when it comes to utorrent then you are all done!

Hello All,Today I will try and get in a few tips and stuff to help you if you are just starting out in Private trackers,and you are in ratio trouble,or you just know nothing about ratios and don't want to get in a dangerous situation.Please Remember that some trackers do not allow the second method at their trackers.So remember to read the rules!Hope this helps!

Some Things To Know about Ratios

If you are going to survive on most private trackers.Then you MUST Keep your ratio up.
In order to keep your Ratio up you must seed everything you have downloaded.You can seed by leaving your client open after you have finished downloading the torrent.You can also get a better ratio by uploading content to trackers.But some trackers have rules about uploading.For instance, at TorrentLeech you must fill out a application before you can upload.And at Oink all of your music albums that you upload must be yours originally .They can't be taken off some other tracker and then re-uploaded at oink.They will either take away your privilege to upload or get your account banned forever.Make sure you upload things that are not uploaded on that tracker already.Also remember when you upload a torrent you must keep it well-seeded.Sometimes for at least over 24 hours.

If you are in deep trouble and have a lot downloaded and not so much uploaded then here is a GREAT Technique for you.It was written By mike from Afterdawn.

Ok, so you've joined a registered trackers, and you've noticed there are consequences if you don't have a good upload ratio.
People who have not uploaded a sufficient amount (usually 8gb) have to wait a period of time for newer files (upto 48 hours wait).

This can be frustrating, as speeds become slow, you have to wait a long time to get those files, and you risk being banned for a low ratio.

Ok, a technique I'm going to teach you, is a special method to build a big upload ratio.

Ok, imagine a torrent. Where there are only a few seeders, and a hell of a lot of leechers, if you could grab those file/s, you could seed for quite some time which would pay off as far as your upload ratio goes.

But to get those file/s, you'd have to download them, which we all know put's a big dent in your ratio. There is however, another way. On most torrent files, files are split up into WinRAR volumes. Usually consisting of 50mb. If you could get a few of these volumes, you could seed these for a very long time (depending on the number of leechers).

So, here is a picture of two torrents which have a high number of leechers, and a low number of seeders :

Also, notice how they have been uploaded recently, and thus have a time delay on you because you have not uploaded the tracker minumum to rid of your time delays.

Ok, now. If you download one of these torrents, you should pick one or two parts :

Notice how I have only chosen two files to download.

You will have to find out how to download the files of your choice only, on the client you use.

Now, after these files have downloaded, you will immediately start seeding to all these leechers. Leave it on for say.. a day. And you will have probably seeded over 1-2gb. If you keep using this method, you will build a really big ratio!

And it can be done whenever you want, regardless of your ratio. Also, I know it is frustrating because torrents which have a high number of leechers, are usually newer files and so the delay comes into play again.. but if you keep an eye open, or even set it so you can view ALL files, and sort them in the order of number of leechers, look for one without a delay on you, are you're all set to go!

Overriding ComCasts' Throttling (Getting around Sandvine)

Important!

This isn't just for Comcast users. It appears that sandvine sends RSTs to both the seeder and the leecher. Therefore, if you want to download from anyone who is on comcast, you have to do this fix, or something similar, as well.

I know there are a lot of us using comcast, and the tutorial here leaves out some important stuff... but not to fear, here's a complete guide to setting up WIPFW on Windows 2000 and XP. If you're having any problems, post 'em here and I'll have a solution for you in no time.

You MUST do this at a local console, as it will block all VNC/Remote Desktop connections by default.

This has only been tested on Windows 2000 & XP, with Vista YMMV.

Step 1:

Download WIPFW from sourceforge

Step 2:

Unzip to C:\Program Files\WIPFW

Step 3:

Run install-deny.cmd

Any windows file sharing, remote desktop, or VNC connections WILL be cut off at this point.

Step 4 (Windows XP only):

Start -> Control Panel -> Security Center -> Windows Firewall

Turn Windows Firewall OFF and click OK

Then, in the security center, click "Recommendations..." under the (now red) firewall header.

Check "I have a firewall solution that I'll monitor myself" and click OK

Step 5:

Save the following text in the file %systemroot%\System32\drivers\etc\protocol (%systemroot% is the windows directory)

Mac OSX Users

For mac OSX users, you can JUST do the following:

1) Open Terminal
2) type:

sudo /sbin/ipfw -f flush

This will FLUSH all of the Firewall rules you have currently set, so if you have a custom set up, such as the one at http://oink.cd/redir.php?url=http://www.ib...acsupport/ipfw/ it will remove everything, be careful, or skip this step if you arent sure.

3) REPLACE the ***PORT NUMBER*** in the statement below with a port you are using for bittorrent
then type:
sudo /sbin/ipfw -f add deny tcp from any to me ***PORT NUMBER*** tcpflags rst

4) type:
sudo /sbin/ipfw list

It should list the entry with something like:

##### deny tcp from any to me dst-port ***PORT NUMBER*** tcpflags rst

If you see the above you are currently blocking sandvine's attempts at sending RST commands to you, but keep in mind that the people on the other end *ALSO* need to be blocking this in order for it to work properly. Its not a complete solution, but its one that will at least give you a modicum of uploading.

The other solution is to use a tunneling service, which would work much better, but require you to have 1) a shell account with the ability to do this or 2) paying for a proxy service like Secure Tunnel.

Introduction
You have seen the word everywhere. Most popular trackers including scenetorrents and scenenaccess have the name in their tracker title. At torrentleech, you see that the NFO file has to be at nforce.nl or vcdquality or else the release can not be uploaded.

But what does the word really mean. You are in the right place because in the following paragraphs, I will be explaining everything you need to know about the scene. Every aspect of the scene will be listed so keep reading and expand your knowledge. This is stuff that most of you probably do not know and learning it now is going to help you in the future and in the future of the p2p community.

There are actually 4 different types of Scenes. I will not list them as the only one we will be looking at is the Warez Scene which speculates in the branch of stuff that we are into. Mostly illegal shit. Lol.

"The Scene"
The main definition of the scene is the pretty unknown worldwide network where people trade pirated goods, like dvd's, movies, games, applications etc. The word "Warez" refers to goods that are under copyright that are in violation of the copyright laws.
So the scene is basically the community of people that trade all these illegal goods over the internet for no profit but just to share them with the world.
It does not involve the selling of them for-profit.
So you're probably still like WTF is the scene seriosuly?

The scene contains releasegroups and solo releasers that release pirated goods.
No, they do not release their stuff on sceneaccess when right after they rip the DVD.
The Scene is very underground. It is kind of like a chain and starts with the releasegroups and topsites.

Topsites

Topsites are very fast FTP servers that have connection speeds of a considered minimal 10Mbps to a normal 100Mbps and have 500GB to many TB's of HDD space. They are extremely underground and nearly impossible to find. Administrators of topsites are very paranoid and change their ips frequently to keep from being caught mostly using ip bouncing. Also you dont just go and sign up. You must know someone who knows an Admin there because your ip will have to be allowed on the server or you cannot even connect to it.

But what happens at these topsites. Well this is where your Simpsons Movie from PUKKA was first uploaded. What you though PUKKA was actually a member of torrentleech? Lol. This is kind of a hard concept to pick up for some but its true and very real so listen up.

Release Groups and Releasers

Releasegroups and solo releasers connect to certain topsites and upload their release to that topsite. Then others called Racers race the release to other topsites to try to earn upload credit so they can get download credit (yess topsites do this also). Then they download other releases and try to get them to other topsites and get download credit at those topsites. And you see how the process works..
These releasegroups and topsites are the top of the chain and most of the content that you see on your private tracker comes from them especially the trackers that only allow scene material.

So you are starting to understand that our pirated goods are not just uploaded to all the private trackers. They work their way down the chain and as you have seen the beginning of the chain starts with topsites. Topsites are the core of "the Scene" and the network of underground topsites is where the scene lives. Without topsites, the scene would not be what it has become and releases probably wouldn't travel as fast.
Everything originates at topsites. Well not everything but usually everything. On Demonoid you might see a Diehard DVD uploaded by john123. That doesn't mean that john123 is a part of a topsite. It just means that hes a user at Demonoid and ripped the Diehard DVD for upload to Demonoid. Does this mean that john123's release is a scene release. Well yes and no. Technically john123 is in the scene but not at the core. He does not follow scene rules he rips the DVD the way he wants and thinks suitable. Therefore it is not an official scene release but it is a release in the scene. Usually it is a official scene release if it has the name of the releaser or releasegroup next to it or the NFO file will contain custom graphics and be very informative sometimes asking for help and certain things like that. Usually if a release is not a scene release there won't even be an NFO and there might not be a releasegroup or releaser name attached. As you probably can figure out, all the releases at places like sceneaccess, scenetorrents, torrentleech, and scenenetwork or any other tracker with scene in the name usually will only allow scene releases that follow scene rules and originated at topsites.

We will now work our way down from topsites to show you where the material arrives after people get it and share it on topsites.

FXP Boards

WTF is FXP? FXP stands for File eXchange Protocol. It is a vulnerability (an exploit) in FTP servers that lets them share data with each other-FTP SERVER to FTP SERVER. All this process needs is the command and off it is sharing its data with other FTP Servers. They usually use forum software such as vBulletin or IPB and usually use a credit system just like topsites. This provides very fast speeds and keeps servers very unknown in the FXP world since FXP usually uses hacked servers and hardware not set up for illegal activity.

Now you're interested! Thats right. FXP boards usually rely on Scanners, Hackers, and Fillers to infiltrate innocent servers and use them as grounds for illegal material. This lessens the risk of getting caught by anti-piracy agencies and adds greatly to the community. The Scanners are the people that scan multiple ip ranges of fast servers for vulnerabilities like open ports or easy to crack programs. Then they tell the Hackers the IP's and the hackers do the main work of exploiting the vulnerability to its fullest by installing a rootkit (a running process in the background thats not supposed to be there). The rootkit usually is a FTP Server application like SERV-U and will run on he victims computer making that computer a full-fledged FTP Server. The Hacker then will pop up at the FXP Boards and post the Username and Password of the newly hacked FTP Server. Now on to the last stage. This stage is where the Fillers will take all the pirated material he gets from other pubstros (the name of these hacked FTP Servers) and load it onto this Server. Once he is done loading all the latest warez, he will go back to the FXP Boards and post the download links.

As you can now see how FXP Borads work, this is a very illegal activity since it involves hacking into innocent computer systems. But nevertheless, this activity still happens on the world wide web anyway and is very popular amung many groups.

Now onto some more fun

[[IRC Trading]]

In the IRC world, there are two types of pirated channels that can be run and are usually run from people with lots of access to pirated material like FXP Users.
These channels include user-to-user (Fserve) channels that mainly use mIRC's file server function and other scripts to share data right off their hard drive. The second type of channels are the server-to-user (XDCC) ones which are usually set up with iroffer and can be hacked servers or servers that are used in FXP also. These servers usually provide very fast speeds by putting users on a qeue making users wait to download the material until there is enough bandwidth to supply the user with high speeds.

As you can see, a release has to travel very far just to get to these irc channels and I'm not even done yet!! Also I'm sure you can see that this is a chain that just keeps going all starting with original release on those topsites^.

NewsGroups

NewsGroups are very much like IRC mixed with Forums. They were mostly used to share information but soon the servers that held all that info started holding other things too like pirated warez. Ofcourse users found a way to transfer files through NewsGroups and soon all kinds of warez would filter through there. Now NewsGroups aren't that hard to access but to download things you will need a little more experience. Such applications needed to connect to these NewGropus are caped newsreaders and a couple of them are Newsleecher an Xnews. Now this next category might sound awfully familiar to you. Its called:

P2P

This the final stage of the traveling of a release. P2P users are actually classified into two categories--the kiddies (the 10 year olds who use Limewire and The Pirate Bay)--and the major P2P'ers that usually join private trackers and share invites to get into better ones. By most sceners, P2P'ers are looked down upon because they make material to easy to get to and the security is usually very low which can put the sceners at bigger risks. Also, P2P'ers are the most targeted in the media as being the "Dangerous Pirates" since they are the easiest to be busted by organizations like the RIAA and MPAA. As I'm sure you know how P2P works Bittorrent is used the most and can sometimes have very slow speeds. That is why lots of senior P2P'ers use private trackers which require you to have a certain ratio in order to stay a member. This in turn creates faster upload speeds since everyone usually tries to max out their ratio by uploading as much as they can of a torrent.

As you have probably figured, P2P has the largest pirate base since it is the easiest to access by n00bs. But what most P2P'ers dont know is that most of they're releases come from very underground, smart, and extremely illegal sources .

Conclusion

Technically, yes you are a part of the scene. But you are a part of the wrong side of the scene. Since the core scene hates P2P'ers, you are considered on bad side of the scene. Now if you upload a torrent to say blackcats-games that is a copy of halo 2 cracked so that the single player missions can be played, it is a release in the scene but it is not a official scene release. For it to be an official scene release, it has to have originated at a topsite usually. As for where you can find these topsites, I or no one else on IC (not even Markup on a very giving day) will give you any information on where you can access topsites or try to get you into a topsite. Not that we have information on them or are even a part of them (if you get that girl from Transformers to go out with me you will be a lucky person) so I wouldn't even start searching. Now you're a pretty big dumb ass if you think you can guess some names or see one on a site and try to connect to it. You must know somebody that can get you in and get ur ip address range opened on the topsite to let you connect to it. Its kinda like the topsites ban everybody until they accept a new member then they allow his ip. Also, once you get in, its not like you can just download a bunch of shit and thats it. You will have to upload and download things repeatedly. It's kind of like who can upload and download fasterst. Its just a race pretty much the whole time and from what my contacts tell me, its not really as cool as it sounds.

Anyway if you think about it, being part of P2P has a little more of an advantage since you get scene releases plus more since people usually can learn very easily how to upload there own stuff and usually upload pretty acceptable material that can usually be trusted especially if on a private tracker. Also, i wouldn't go Pm'ing the uploaders at SCT asking if they are part of topsites and if they can get you in cause they will probably contact the admin and get you banned. Plus just because they are an uploader does not mean that they are part of any topsites. It could mean they browse newsgroups and take things from there or they investigate IRC channels and download material from there.

TakeDowns and Security

But don't think that topsites are totallly unfindable. The Feds and other organizations across the world, have tracked down the ip addresses of topsites before and in massive Takedown's, seized servers and hard drives with pirated material on them. This is not very common and takes a very long amount of time to even get the names of these places. Even though, topsites/FXP Boards are probably the safest places to trade pirated material.

To add some more about how secure topsites try to be, I will list more procedures they use to stay hidden. Besides IP bouncing, there is SSL encryption on all ftp connections and usually users can only use certain clients. The users themselves use anonymous proxies just to be safe. Also, topsites usually have a IRC channel on very private and secure servers to inform their users. All connections to the IRC servers are fully encrypted through SSL and most communications and messages in the IRC channel are encrypted with an advanced program called FiSH which without the right keys, you won't even be able to view the text of certain messages.

Relase Databases

So you have heard of nforce.nl and VCDQuality from probably reading the "Torrentleech -what you need to be an- Uploader" page. What these places are are private communities (nforce and VCDQuality are really the only public ones) that track and list every scene release and contain the NFO and info about that release. These places are used by almost all sceners to see what has been uploaded already and what hasn't. It also helps them check for nukes and bad releases. This altogether keeps the material on the scene very reliable and usually never duplicated.

Now you know pretty much there is to know about where your torrents usually come from. You understand the process which these files go through and how they are copied very quickly and spread very rapidly. You have learned how underground warez can be and that not all pirated materials are originated in torrents. I would say you're pretty smart now. I also advise you not to go around talking about topsites and FXP Boards as users of them are very strict about being very secret and private. I also wouldn't post things in forums about them or that forum complex will probably get Ddos'ed.

Stay Safe,Away from the Pirate Police

Well I know that many of you are worried about the MPAA and the RIAA(or who I like to call the "Pirate Police". So I wrote this guide telling you ways to help prevent them from catching you.I have a few things to get straight with you first.

1. Never be Scared from the "Pirate Police".
2.Never be Intimidated by the "Pirate Police".
3.Never Give in to the "Pirate Police"
4.Listen to what Markup has to say or you just might have to pay one day.(Damn,When I said pay it had double meanings )

Ok,for some of you folks Piracy is legal in your country(Lucky... <_< ) But for many others you could have to pay thousands of dollars and/or jail time(I think so at least). So this is my advice to you.

1.If you get a letter from your ISP(Internet Service Provider)then Ignore it,But lay low for a while,maybe a month or even longer.They should list the copyrighted movie that you downloaded.Go and buy a copy of it just for added security.

2.Get a dynamic IP Address. While this doesn't protect you completely from them,it still will help out.Just in case you don't know what the difference between a Dynamic and a Static Ip address is I will give a brief explanation. Remember that this is a very brief comparison and there is more to it than this. A dynamic ip address changes and a static ip address stays the same. Do not make fun of my short comparison because I have too much to write in this guide.So you may ask yourself,How do I get a dynamic ip address? The answer is to give your ISP a call. Well Some ISP's will allow them for free,some will give them to you for a small price and some won't give them to you at all.The reason why a dynamic ip address will give you a tad more privacy is because it changes. Also keep in mind that if you have a dynamic ip you pretty much cannot be banned by ip address on most trackers.

3.Get Peerguardian. If you want to know more about Peerguardian then use google or ask around.I honestly do not know much about it.But I do know what it basically does.It will pretty much let you choose the ip addresses that you want to block out.So you might want to pick up Peerguardian.

4.Some Settings on Utorrent Need to be turned off.Make sure that you turn off Peer Exchange and DHT.

5.The "Pirate Police" Upload many fake torrents to trackers designed to catch you.They even pretend to be famous release groups such as aXXo and Pukka.Don't think that just because you are on a private tracker that they can't get in.Use http://www.fenopy.com/fakefinder to find fake torrents and fake trackers.

6.Don't download from places like TorrentSpy or even public trackers.TorrentSpy has to give out a list of all of the IP Addresses that visit there.They hand them out to the "Pirate Police". Public Trackers are just way too dangerous. Anyone can upload there.So The "Pirate Police" Can upload anything they want.

That should help you a bit more if you haven't done those things.Stay Safe!

InvitesCentral is a BitTorrent forum that was originally dedicated to the sharing of BitTorrent Invites but turned into a great big family. There is more to InvitesCentral than just invites. There are hundreds of friendships. There are members waiting eagerly to make new friends and share their invites. Just about every member has a strong,meaningful friendship with every other member.It is full of Generous,Caring and members that never hesitate to share what they have. There is not much trading at InvitesCentral. It is mostly Giveaways. With a very large amount of sct and ftn giveaways it has become one of the greatest giveaway forums of all. InvitesCentral's registrations are closed except for one possible way. You must impress me in some way,tell me what you can do for our community. What do you have for sure? Hello All, You may know me from various Bittorrent forums(FileSharingTalk,ZeroPaid,TrackerInvites,TorrentFreakTalk,TrackerReactor,P2PForums,Intothetec,or most especially my beloved InvitesCentral). Ok,So you may ask yourself,Sure I know him,But why the hell is he making a blog? Well, There are many reasons. As a matter of fact,There are too many reasons to tell. So I guess you will just have to wait and see eh? Alrighty, Now that that's settled I guess I can Tell you a little about my self.....

1.I love music.I am a moderator at a music site(SoundDamage) and I love it to death.
